Art of Chokin Miniature Plate / Pin Dish
A very nice example of Art of Chokin, this is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing. It is 10 cm. in diameter and is in white porcelain, decorated with a band of black and bands of 24 carat gold. The Chokin inset features a design of two peacocks and flowering branches.
White porcelain with gold banding. The Chokin inset features a floral design in gold, bronze and pewter metallic colours on a silver coloured background with a monogram in oriental characters. The base is 8.5 cm. diam.; the top of the lid is 9.5 cm diam.; the box (with lid) is 4.5 cm. in height. There are two small marks near the monogram, otherwise the condition is very good, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
A nicely hand-painted dish; 11.5 cm square. The blue and white floral decoration is set off by a narrow band of dark brown round the edge. There is a backstamp in Oriental characters. The condition is very good, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Japanese Octagonal Porcelain Plate: Peacock Feathers Design
18.25 cm diam. (can one have a hexagonal diameter?!). It has a finely detailed design of peacock feathers in shades of olive green. The edge has a gilded band and the remainder of the design has gilded highlights. The backstamp has an unidentified logo with ‘Japan’. The condition is very good, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
16 cm high (including lid). Each of the six panels has a matt opalescent surface decorated with a design of peacocks and flowers mainly in shades of brown and gold and highlighted with gilding. There is no backstamp, but there is a gold label on the underside which reads: Simco Art-ware, Japan.. It probably dates from the later 20th Century. This jar is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
21 cm high (incl. lid) and 42 cm circumference at its widest. Glazed inside as well as outside. The design of lilies and a bird has a metallic finish with gilded detailing. There is gilding round the rim of the lid and on the finial. There is no backstamp. The gilding on the lid’s rim is a little uneven for about 4 cm, but that is the only fault I can find with this jar. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
15 cm high. Red, green, blue and gold design featuring chrysanthemums. Backstamp of oriental characters. Very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Made in Arita, one of Japan’s most famous porcelain production areas, this lovely vase is 15 cm high with an enameled design of irises in shades of pink and lilac. The backstamp shows an iris with ‘Ayame, Seizan, Japan’ (Ayame = iris). The condition is very good, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Japanese? Blue & White Hexagonal Porcelain Baluster Vase
I am not really sure whether this vase is Japanese or Chinese. I am not even sure whether it is Oriental or Western, but it is a very nice example of late 20th Century blue and white ware. There is no maker’s mark. It is 17 cm high, and in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Japanese Cobalt Porcelain Plate: Floral Cart Design
An attractive plate; 18 cm diam., with a floral cart design embellished with gilding; the scalloped edge is also gilded. There is a Backstamp in Oriental characters. The condition is very good, with no chips, cracks or crazing
Japanese Handpainted Eggshell Porcelain Cup and Saucer
The cup is paper-thin, while the saucer is slightly thicker. The design is handpainted, with some transfer printing; featuring birds, reeds and flowers with small buildings in a watery landscape. In the cup the design extends right round and shows Mount Fujiyama on the back. Both items are embellished with gilding, which is a little uneven in part, but the condition is very good, with no chips, cracks or crazing. There is a signature in Oriental characters on the underside of each item
