Cookies


1. What is a cookie?

When you visit the CollectFair web site your computer is sent a cookie. The cookie is a small text file which the browser sends back to CollectFair every time you view a page. The cookie contains a code which identifies your computer to our server. Many sites such as Yahoo! and Ebay do this every time you visit.

When you want to sign in, it becomes essential that your computer can be identified, otherwise it would be impossible to let you, and only you, edit your pages, or post messages in the forum with your name. Through the settings of your web browser you can choose to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or be asked each time one is sent to you. If you choose to reject all cookies you will not be able to sign in, and will find many other personalised web pages are inaccessible.

The cookie sent by CollectFair does not collect any personal data from your computer, and is deleted as soon as you close your web browser.

2. Controlling cookies

If you're using Netscape 6.0:
On your Task Bar, click:
  1. Edit, then
  2. Preferences
  3. Click on Advanced
  4. Click on Cookies
  5. Restart the browser after changing the cookies settings.
If you're using Internet Explorer 6.0:
  1. Choose Tools, then
  2. Internet Options
  3. Click the Privacy Tab
  4. Click on Custom Level
  5. Click on the 'Advanced' button
  6. Check the 'override automatic cookie handing' box and select Accept, Block or Prompt for action as appropriate.
If you're using Internet Explorer 5.0 or 5.5:
  1. Choose Tools, then
  2. Internet Options
  3. Click the Security tab
  4. Click on Custom Level
  5. Scroll down to the sixth option to see how cookies are handled by IE5 and change to Accept, Disable, or Prompt for action as appropriate.
If you're using Internet Explorer 4.0:
  1. Choose View, then
  2. Internet Options
  3. Click the Advanced tab
  4. Scroll down to the yellow exclamation icon under Security and choose one of the three options to regulate your use of cookies.
If you're using Mozilla:
  1. Choose Edit, then
  2. Preferences, then
  3. Privacy and Security
  4. Cookies
  5. Choose 'Enable cookies' or 'Enable cookies for the originating web site only'
  6. Restart the browser after changing the cookies settings.
If you're using Netscape Communicator 4.0:
On your Task Bar, click:
  1. Edit, then
  2. Preferences
  3. Click on Advanced
  4. Set your options in the box that says Cookies.
  5. Restart the browser after changing the cookies settings.
