Collectors have been interested in stamps on envelopes for over 150 years. It’s not clear when people posted envelopes on purpose to get the postmark of the first day but certainly in 1870, many of the new halfpenny postcards were definitely sent to be kept.

Buckingham Covers was started in 2001 by Tony Buckingham - Tony Buckingham is recognised worldwide as a leading authority on first day and commemorative covers. He was the first winner of the prestigious Rowland Hill Award for his contribution to philately. Tony edited Collect FDC for nearly 20 years and has served on the Philatelic Trade Society Council.

Happy 50th Anniversary Paddington Bear

The bear we all love is celebrating his 50th Anniversary!

Back in 1958, Michael Bond could never have imagined that the bear from Darkest Peru would become such a British icon.

We celebrate his 50th anniversary with a superb Royal Mail sheet.

Each carries a minimum £3 donation to Paddington's favourite charity, Action Medical Research, who played a crucial role in developing the polio vaccine in the UK, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy and hip replacement surgery.

The sheets coincide with the first new Paddington book for 30 years: Paddington Here and Now.

What are Stamp Sheets?

Commemorative stamp sheets are new on the collectables scene but already hot property! Limited edition sheets are desirable and often go up in value over time. Buckingham Covers are known to actively buy back our own stamp sheets for more than we first sold them!

A stamp sheet is around A4 size and contains 10 first class stamps (the Union Jack stamps in the Paddington sheet example) contained in a special design. The stamps are valid for postage, but you don’t want to be ripping this up! Most people frame their stamp sheets or keep them in an album.
