Japanese Art of Chokin Temple JarThe ancient art of Chokin was originally created to decorate the armament of the Samurai warriors. This attractive temple jar probably dates from the late 20th century and is 16 cm high. It is in ivory coloured china gilded round the edges with 24 carat gold and the Chokin insert depicts a woman in traditional Japanese dress looking out towards a mountain. There is a descriptive label on the underside. The jar comes in its original box which is quite worn, but still intact. The jar itself is in very good condition apart from a slight dent in the metal insert, and has no chips, cracks or crazing.

Small Chinese Tea PotThis attractive little teapot 7 cm high and has a capacity of 250 ml: enough for two small English type cups, or perhaps four small Chinese tea bowls. The white glazed body is decorated with a traditional design in yellow, with blue and red. The backstamp has Chinese characters and ‘Made in China’, with the figure ‘07’ underneath. This may mean 2007 as the year of manufacture, but I am not sure: it may be a few years older than that. This little teapot is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Chinese Tea Pot £ 4.00, UK postage: £ 3.70 Ask for more information. |
Japanese Porcelain Plate: Imari-style DecorationA beautiful porcelain plate decorated with a design of flowers and birds in the Imari palette of predominantly dark blue and red. picked out in gold. It probably dates from the latter half of the 20th Century. It is 16.25 cm. in diameter, with the maker’s mark backstamped in oriental characters. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.

Pair of Japanese Porcelain Small Square DishesThese two porcelain dishes do not have any backstamp or maker’s mark, although one has a retailer’s barcode label on the back. Judging by the style of decoration, I think that they are Japanese. The dishes are 13 cm square and are quite heavy. Each is decorated with a design of a floral arrangement in a vase with butterflies. The predominant colours are Imari-style shades of blue, red and pink and the design is highlighted with gilding. The border has a dark blue background and is edged with engraved gilded bands. These dishes are in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing

Japanese Cobalt Porcelain Pin Dish : SquareAn attractive pin dish, 12.25 cm square; glazed in cobalt blue with a floral centrepiece decoration in shades of blue, pink, red and yellow outlined with gilding; the edge of the dish has a gilded edge. There is no backstamp or maker’s mark, but I am fairly certain that this dish is Japanese, as I have had several similar items in stock which were Japanese. Apart from two places where there is a very little rubbing in the gilding round the edge this little dish is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Japanese Cobalt Pin Dish £ 3.50, UK postage: £ 2.45 Ask for more information. |
Japanese Cobalt Porcelain VaseThis lovely little vase is 12 cm high. It is glazed in cobalt blue and decorated with a design of peacocks and flowers. The peacocks are mostly in gold and there is a gold rim round the top edge of the vase. There is no backstamp, but I believe that this vase is Japanese porcelain, probably dating from the latter part of the 20th Century. This vase is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips or crazing.
Japanese Cobalt Vase £ 3.00, UK postage: £ 3.10 Ask for more information. |
Japanese Octagonal Porcelain Plate: Peacock Feathers DecorationThis is an exquisite plate, 18.25 cm diameter . It has an elegant, finely detailed design of peacock feathers in graduated shades of olive green. The edge is decorated with a gilded band and the remainder of the design has gilded highlights. The photo does not do full justice to the design. The backstamp) has a logo which I cannot identify with ‘Japan’ below it. This plate is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.

Small Chinese Blue & White Dish : Red Floral HighlightingThis little porcelain dish is a lovely variation on the blue and white theme. It is decorated round the edge with a blue lattice work design. The floral design is three-layered; at the back the flowers and leaves are in a light shadowy blue, in the middle it is in a darker blue and in the foreground there are red flowers with green leaves. All this produces an attractive, almost 3-D effect. There is a backstamp in Oriental characters. The dimensions are: 14 cm diameter across the top, with a depth of approximately 2 cm in the centre. This dish is in excellent order, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Chinese Blue & White Dish £ 4.00, UK postage: £ 2.70 Ask for more information. |
Chinese Mirror Black Porcelain Temple JarThis beautiful jar is 21 cm high (including the lid) and 42 cm circumference at its widest point. The design of lilies and a bird is in muted shades of gold, pink and blue in a matt finish with detailing in gilt. There is gilding on the rim and finial of the lid. Mirror black glaze was introduced during the Kangxi period, but this vase is modern; probably from towards the end of the 20th Century. The gilt band on the lid’s rim is a little uneven for about 4 cm, but that is the only fault I can find with this jar. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.

Japanese Porcelain Four-sided VaseThis elegant little vase is 15.5 cm high and decorated with eight panels. Each panel features a design of birds and flowers set in a dark red background beautifully decorated with intricate gilding. The backstamp features concentric circles with oriental characters underneath and in the middle a picture of a Japanese girl in a house and garden setting. There is one small chip on one of the points at the bottom of the vase, but it is not noticeable at all. Otherwise this vase is in very good condition, with no cracks or crazing.

Japanese Miniature Tin-glazed Earthenware PlateThis plate is 12 cm in diameter. It is decorated with a finely detailed transfer design in strong, bright colours. The picture in the centre has a house and garden setting and shows a rider on a horse with an attendant setting off on a journey; with an elderly man and another man apparently bidding him farewell.
